As a child we had 2 Peking ducks my sister got as a gift. They were terrific about nabbing slugs & snails as your runner ducks do. We adored their gentle nature, soft quacking and they'd sit with us. But, we did have to give them up because our town did not permit 'farm' animals. They lived out their lives at the pond at the local animal sanctuary. ♡

Wild birds never lay eggs almost every day, that’s something that is unnatural for them.

You are literally living my dream. I will have a life like this some day. Im not going to stay trapped in the city. I will also live somewhere i can see the stars properly and not just the lights of my neighbors.

What about predators? We have a second orchard/garden near the forest in rural southern Germany and I can see birds of pray such as kites and also martens, badgers and foxes at night. What are the chances of survival for ducks under these conditions, are they ready to sleep in a coop at night? I know from people who keep free range chicken that they regularly loose one or another, even with a rooster present.

Am I the only one who imitates their little waddle, whenever I see ducks?❤😂

I think I need to borrow a duck from a farmer. I've got almost overrun with slugs and snails in my garden. I've got a banquet waiting for a lucky ducky.
